02.06.13 - Dark Heart Designs

In November 2012, Dark Heart Designs was having a 50% off sale. I had purchased only one time before and that was before they switched packaging, but it had been awhile (about 2 years?) since then. So, I decided I wanted to give it a shot. I ordered two sets, the Once Upon a Time Collection and the Deliciously Mad Collection [I would link them but their store is empty right now]. I must say I was disappointed... Read on...
Now, I don't mean for this post to be a rant. Like I said, I had purchased from her before but it's been awhile. My first order went through with no problems and was quick to ship. The only problem I had for this  order was the incredibly long wait!!!!

Purchase Date: November 11, 2012
Shipped On: January 3, 2013
Received: January 5, 2013

Yes, she did mass-email everyone and kept in contact through Facebook but I expected the longest wait time to be a month. I had contacted her and she did email me back promptly, but... I was getting frustrated during the last month because I was taking a financial hit (my job decided to cut hours) and I decided that I'd rather get my money back than wait any longer. So I emailed her again but received no response. Instead, I received a "Your order has been shipped" notice. So much for cancelling it.

Now, onto my order. Everything is swatched under an LED light and over TFSI

Each eyeshadow pot/jar (whatever?) had a tiny card attached with the name (hand-written) of the eyeshadow and the ingredients listing.

Here's what the top of the jar looked like. I believe it's hot-stamped.

 The bottom of the jars...

 The pile of ingredients listings...

I received 3 samples: 2 eyeshadow samples: Hollywood Has Been and The Mayor; and a blush sample: Scarlet Starlet

The clamshell for the blush sample is ADORABLE!!!!

Scarlet Starlet

Now, onto the eyeshadows... The colors are not in any order (not in order by collections...; but a random order)

All the jars/pots of sifters and knowing me...I hate sifters ^_^; So I took them all out. These are harder to take out, but I managed...

I don't know if you can tell but Fairytale has a 'dirtier' base than Enchanted.

Madness - Sheer light blue with blue and silver shimmers.
From the way it looks in the jar, I expected it to be more pigmented and bright but this was quite sheer and muted.

 L-R: Villain, Curse, and Fantasy

Villain - Violet with a slight red sheen that has red and purple shimmers and blue glitter
I think this is a very unique color... I just wish I could capture it better on camera -_-;
 Villain

Curse - Gray that has a blue sheen and blue glitter
I was extremely, EXTREMELY disappointed in this color. It comes off patchy, sheer, and because there's so much glitter in it (not chunky glitter like Urban Decay is known for), most of the glitter likes to stay in a group. In this case, the top...

You can see where all the glitter migrates in groups. It's best to use a stickier base or some sort of cosmetic glitter glue...

Fantasy - Lilac that has a slight turquoise sheen and has silver shimmers

 L-R: Plum Insane and Deal

Plum Insane - Purple with silver shimmers and a ton of blue glitter.
Just like Curse, this color is packed with blue glitter. It collects in groups as you can see in this photo.

Deal - Dirty gold that has gold, copper, and green shimmers

Magic - Pewter with silver glitter.
Another collective glitter color...

Silver Lining - Not exactly silver... more like a frosty white and a ton of silver shimmer and glitter.

What I didn't post: the two lipsticks that were included. One was a tangerine color and the other was a deep red. I didn't try them either. Why? There was a STRONG citrus scent to it. As much as I love fruity scents... For some reason, I couldn't handle that one. Maybe it was because it was mixed with the waxes and whatever ingredients she used to create the lipsticks and those scents (from the waxes and oils and such) mixed with the scent/flavor she chose. It gave me a headache. >_>; Maybe I'll do a separate post on them or something...?

In conclusion, though there were some nice colors I found that I wasn't very into them. A lot of the colors [probably not the fault of the actual pigmentation of items; but because I chose them] were light and sheer. There were also the ones that had a ton of microfine cosmetic glitter in them that would create a ton of fall out and looked weird unless you use a cosmetic-grade glitter adhesive or suffer from splotchy glitter patches which will eventually fall all over the place. The formula and texture I wasn't a fan of either. How do I explain this? It feels like there's no base, so it feels as if it can fly off your skin if you rub it off. The eyeshadows weren't velvety smooth; more like... very very very fine.

I just checked my previous order from them and found the formula to be the same as above.

Anyway, have any of you ordered from Dark Heart Designs? What did you think? I'd like to know.
